How’s your account? Yes, your bank account. Oh! I see you don’t have one. Not enough money to lodge in the bank. How’s business? Come on don’t say that you are managing. Have you ever tried the panacea for success that also works against lack and want?
Have you ever tried TITHING? You know paying 10% of your income, by the way GROSS, not NET income! What about those cash gifts you’ve been receiving lately from your friends, customers and relations? You’re expected to pay 10% on that too, yes on ALL those gifts.
What about your OFFERING? Giving peanuts to the LORD? Let me ask you a question, if your best friend were to throw a birthday party this Saturday, what kind of a gift are you likely to present? Most like a higher denomination in mint condition if it is a cash gift. Now, obviously you would be going to church the following Sunday, unless you are the type that takes “casual leaves” from church.
The offering basket is passed to you, what are you likely to give the LORD- you know for God’s kingdom, perhaps the lower denominations? Have you ever tried giving the highest denomination like the one you gave to your best friend?
There is a story about a young man. The offering basket was being passed around and he put his hand in the “wrong pocket” – sometimes we are caught unawares when the offering basket is passed around – well he dropped the highest note, fifty pounds instead of the proposed smallest note, five pounds and by the time he realized it, the offering basket had been passed on.
Well he got a little bit angry and when he got home, he told his friends the mistake he had made in church. No sooner had he informed his friends, that the LORD replied him according to the story, “Don’t worry son, it was recorded as five pounds”. What have you proposed for the LORD? We must desire to give our best.
According to 2 Samuel 24v24, you will find that David said he will not offer unto the LORD something that costs him nothing. Decide today to evaluate your offering and make efforts to give your best. With online or cash offerings, decide to improve on your giving. Most years, I increase my giving and as much as possible I present the best notes in my possession. You too can start today.
