Welcome to the first week of September. May the LORD continually uphold you all and your families in Jesus name! I will like to share briefly on Godly Counsel. We all require counsel at one point in time, but we must desire godly counsel because it is such counsel that will promote us and propel us to the fulfilment of our God ordained mandate.
Proverbs 11v14 tells us “Where no counsel is, the people fall but in the multitude of counselors there is safety”. This verse is speaking about protection.
Women need protection and that is why we have a HUSBAND to maintain a band of protection round us. God is the PROTECTOR but the husband is an instrument God uses at will.
Proverbs 15v22 tells us “Without counsel purposes are disappointed but in the multitude of counsellors they are established “. Here we see fulfilment of purpose.
Counsel is advice, consultation and recommendation. Counselors are given the task to counsel, they give specific advice to those who have challenges, thereby recommending a particular course of action. However the best counsel is from God according to Proverbs 8v4 “Counsel is mine and sound wisdom, I am understanding. I have strength”.
Strength comes from holding on to godly counsel especially during trying times like the country is experiencing now.
We are to counsel one another according to Proverbs 27v9. “Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel”.
I remember a lady whose husband shortly after the wedding cut up all her dresses that revealed her shape. Her so called friends advised that she should cut up his clothes. Surprisingly those who offer the negative advice are happy with their husbands at home, they would never even dream of destroying their husband’s clothes but they are happy to offer the advice to destroy another person’s marriage.
This lady sought counseling from a minister of God, which confirmed what she had decided to do. She would not retaliate. As women we can take advice from our inlaws. Naomi advised Ruth to offer herself to Boaz, her kinsman redeemer in Ruth 3v1-6.
We can also take advice from our mother and grandmother. I never knew my grandmothers but I gained much from my mum. Timothy’s godly upbringing was due to the advice of his mother, Eunice and grandmother, Lois – 2 Timothy 1v5.
We can also take advice from older women because they have experience, knowledge and such advice helps us not to make the same mistakes they made. Elder women were told to advise the younger ones in Titus 2v 3-5. Embrace godly counsel, don’t shun it. God bless you and your families.
Have a wonderful week. Until we connect again next week.
